Last call to enroll in choice programs at LAUSD

The application period for LA Unified magnet programs, permits with transportation, and the dual language/bilingual programs will close tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 9.

If you are submitting a paper application to enroll your child in one of these choice programs, the envelope you’re mailing to the district should have a postmark with a date of Nov. 9 at the latest. The applications online will close at midnight.

Through the district’s new unified enrollment platform, parents can enroll students in their neighborhood school or — until tomorrow — apply to schools of choice that offer specialized programs within the district, but not charter schools.

One of the three applications being accepted until tomorrow is for the 260 magnet programs located throughout the district. The magnet academic programs are focused on specific subject areas. The majority of programs are geared toward STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and math).

These programs are considered “the jewels of the district.” Data indicate that LA Unified magnet schools/centers outperform other district schools and charter schools overall on state standardized tests.

More information on these programs can be found here, including a map by region that shows the magnet programs available by location. Click here to read more:
