The resolutions come amid ongoing protests for racial justice and demands that local governments slash municipal police budgets, calls directed at the LA School Police Department (LASPD) after public school districts in Minneapolis, Chicago and Portland cut ties with police.

Leadership of the LAUSD teachers union United Teachers Los Angeles indicated their support to defund the department two weeks ago, in a rare turn against a fellow district employee union that placed additional pressure on district leadership to respond. Click here to read more:
