LAUSD not out of woods with cyberattack, security experts say

Most hackers who use ransomware want money or have other plans to use stolen info, cybersecurity experts say

Although Los Angeles Unified officials said this week the school district had not yet received a ransom demand nor evidence that certain personal information had been compromised following this weekend’s cyberattack, security experts on Wednesday, Sept. 7, left open the possibility that such scenarios could still play out.

In fact, cybersecurity experts said the district may not be out of the woods, ever.

Most attackers who use ransomware want money in exchange for returning stolen information, or they want money if they agree not to release or sell information to a third party, experts said. And if not, the responsible parties tend to have other sinister plans in mind. Click here to read more:
