LAUSD students lost 20 years of math progress due to pandemic, Superintendent Carvalho says

District sees drop in English and math proficiency on standardized tests, with pandemic and remote learning playing major role

Students at Los Angeles Unified School District have dropped in proficiency in math and English as compared to pre-pandemic years, according to an early glimpse at standardized test scores released by LAUSD on Friday.

Across all grade levels, the Smart Balanced Assessments test results from the 2021-2022 school year show a 2.3% decrease in meeting state standards for reading and writing, while in mathematics the percentage of the decrease was more than double that, about 5%, the district reported.
