LAUSD’s first woman school police chief unexpectedly retires

As Chief Leslie Ramirez leaves, former Chief Steven Zipperman returns temporarily while district searches for new chief for third time in three years

Just over a year-and-a-half after making history as the first woman to permanently head up the Los Angeles School Police Department, Chief Leslie Ramirez retired on Thursday, June 30.

Former LASPD Chief Steven Zipperman will return as interim chief starting Friday, the department confirmed.

Ramirez’s departure marks the third time in as many years that L.A. Unified will be in search of a new police chief. Click here to read more:
