Dr. Tyrone Howard is the Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has been presenting to LAUSD secondary principals this school year on best practices in turnaround schools and has identified visionary leadership, effective instructional practices, rigor versus difficulty, intense academic interventions, explicit acknowledgement of race, confronting racial micro-aggressions, and parent and community engagement as important levers in this process.
