The March on Washington has become an iconic moment in American history for many of us who were alive and alert 50 years ago. In commemoration of that event, this week our national media is publishing articles of all kinds from a historical perspective and from a variety of viewpoints, focusing on such topics as the major civil rights leaders of the time, the March’s impact on the Civil Rights Act, coalition politics, the philosophy of nonviolence, fears of violence, the music that inspired a movement, “how far we’ve come” and the many personal stories that make such historic moments come alive.
