ONE STEP FORWARD AND TWO STEPS BACKTHE GOVERNOR’S BUDGET VS. FEDERAL SEQUESTRATION

As we have been celebrating the passage of Proposition 30 bringing more funding to California schools and Governor Brown’s proposal to implement Local Control Funding, which has the potential to bring even more relief to LAUSD, we find ourselves facing another devastating round of fiscal cuts from a sequestration of federal funds. The Council of Great City Schools, which is a national organization that exclusively represents the needs of 67 large city school districts, recently surveyed its member districts regarding the impact that the pending sequestration of federal funds would have on urban schools.
